About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the first engineering hire and technical other half of the founding team
- Work directly with the founders and own what is built and how it is built
- Own hardware validation and bench testing end to end
- Lead the manufacturing path, whether through an outsourced partner or in-house
- Build detection logic, alerting, and escalation software from sensor data
- Test and monitor software with the same rigor as the hardware
- Navigate embedded-systems certification and PII data-protection requirements from day one
- Hire, mentor, and lead the engineering team as it grows
- Secure appropriate vendors, terms, and production capabilities to bring the product to market
Requirements
What you’ll need- Early-stage hardware experience, including taking a hardware product from 0 to 1 in a startup environment
- Comfortable spanning embedded systems and software
- Experience using AI to accelerate engineering, prototyping, and startup operations
- Experience leading or building a small engineering team, or clear readiness to step into that role
- Proactive, evidence-first approach and comfort with ambiguity
- Experience with regulatory, security, or compliance requirements in health tech, medical devices, or another safety- and privacy-regulated space
- Ability to lead vendor and manufacturing negotiations
- Direct experience taking a regulated product through CE/UKCA, FDA, or equivalent certification is a major plus
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Hybrid work in London/Cambridge, UK
