Senior Accountant, CPA
Fraser Valley Child Development Centre. Provide senior-level oversight of accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, audit, payroll, and financial compliance functions .
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide senior-level oversight of accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, audit, payroll, and financial compliance functions
- Collaborate with the CEO and Interim Central Finance & Operations Officer to develop annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans
- Support operational leaders in monitoring budgets, reviewing variances, and identifying necessary adjustments
- Prepare financial statements and management reports, analyze financial results and budget variances, and present financial reports to the Board monthly and as required
- Complete accurate and timely financial reporting and other obligations under government funding agreements and grants, including MCFD reporting and grant application information
- Complete and support month-end and year-end accounting, including reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial controls
- Coordinate the annual audit, including preparation of working papers, draft financial statements, and statutory and regulatory financial filings
- Maintain and improve accounting systems, financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting processes
- Support accounting, payroll, and benefits administration, including payroll coverage during administrator absences
- Monitor cash flow, bank accounts, banking transactions, and related financial activities
- Oversee financial administration and reporting of designated and program funds, including the Family Emergency Fund
- Coordinate FVCDC’s insurance portfolio and provide financial review and advice on contracts and business agreements
- Perform other related senior accounting and financial duties as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing
- Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including financial reporting, budgeting, audit preparation, and financial analysis
- Experience in a non-profit, public sector, health, social services, or government-funded environment is preferred
- Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards applicable to not-for-profit organizations is preferred
- Strong proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapt to changing priorities, demonstrate flexibility, and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present and explain financial information to non-financial leaders and Board members
- Sound professional judgment, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Successful completion of satisfactory background checks, including a criminal record check, as applicable to the position
