About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct inpatient renal replacement and apheresis patient care
  • Perform hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, ultrafiltration, continuous renal replacement therapy, and apheresis
  • Supervise and direct Patient Care Technicians and clerical staff
  • Provide direction and education to ICU staff for CRRT
  • Apply appropriate treatment techniques according to prescribed modality procedures
  • Assess patient responses and adjust treatment plans as directed by credentialed physicians
  • Communicate patient concerns with the inpatient manager, physicians, hospital nurses, and healthcare team
  • Deliver safe, effective, timely care and provide organized shift reports
  • Adjust patient schedules to prioritize critical patients based on labs, physician orders, and assessments
  • Implement, administer, monitor, and document intradialytic transfusions and adverse reactions
  • Coordinate daily patient care plans with physicians and healthcare team members
  • Document treatment information in ACES and hospital records
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machines, equipment, chairs, and surrounding areas
  • Prepare dialysis treatments and perform pre-treatment machine alarm testing
  • Operate related equipment safely and perform minor troubleshooting
  • Conduct and document machine safety, alarm, calibration, dialysate, functional, and disinfection tests
  • Complete and document QAI activities
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and orientation
  • Act as a subject matter expert for dialysis-related patient and equipment complications
  • Report incidents, complaints, problems, and adverse events
  • Assist with in-center patient care as needed
  • Comply with company policies, Code of Business Conduct, and applicable laws
  • Assist with projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current appropriate state licensure
  • Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which employed
  • One year RN experience required
  • Minimum 6 months nephrology experience required before working independently with no other Dialysis RNs to provide dialysis and ultrafiltration services
  • Minimum 6 months nephrology experience required before working independently with no other Apheresis RNs to provide Apheresis services
  • Required nursing skills
  • Demonstrated strong assessment skills related to the critically ill patient
  • Successful completion of training course in the theory and practice of care of the ESRD patient – Progressive Renal Education Preparation
  • BLS CPR Recognition
  • Demonstrates organizational and time management skills
  • Competency toward completing continuing and ongoing Renal/Nephrology education
  • Displays leadership skills and ability to direct and supervise PCTs, CCHTs, and clerical staff
  • Successful completion of Nurses Technical Training
  • Ability to take on-call rotations including nights, days, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to travel between assigned hospitals and facilities
  • Ability to regularly perform heavy lifting and move patients/equipment over 200 lbs with assistance
  • Ability to lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs as high as 5 feet
  • Employees are required to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment
  • ACLS CPR Recognition preferred but not required
  • ICU experience preferred but not required
  • Certification in Nephrology Nursing, Apheresis Nursing, or both highly encouraged
