About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide and coordinate clinically competent care for an assigned group of inpatient dialysis patients
- Perform patient assessment, care planning, interventions, evaluation, and documentation before, during, and after treatment
- Delegate appropriate tasks to RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians
- Assess patient and family learning needs and provide ongoing education
- Recognize changes in patient status and collaborate with supervisors, physicians, nurses, and facility staff
- Direct and provide safe, effective modality-specific dialysis treatment procedures
- Assess daily patient care needs and collaborate with direct and ancillary care staff
- Coordinate communication with FKC and non-FKC dialysis providers and contracted facility personnel
- Administer, monitor, and document intradialytic transfusions and report adverse reactions
- Administer prescribed medications and document medical justification and effectiveness
- Initiate and assist with emergency response measures
- Serve as a resource, leader, coach, mentor, and role model for employees
- Provide specialized nursing care instructions to hospital/facility staff as contractually required
- Assist in outpatient facilities as needed
- Serve as a preceptor to new employees
- Complete CAP requirements to maintain or advance
- Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current appropriate state licensure
- Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
- Must meet the practice requirements in all states employed
- Minimum 2 years or more of Nephrology Nursing experience in the last 2 years as an RN
- Acute dialysis experience preferred
- Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, frequent prolonged standing, and bending
- Ability to move machines and equipment up to 200 lbs. with assistance
- Ability to lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
- Required to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment
- Willingness and ability to participate in on-call, night, weekend, and holiday coverage
- Successful completion of FKC education and modality-specific training requirements for designated Nurse in Charge oversight
- 6 months of acute dialysis experience as an RN for designated Nurse in Charge oversight
