About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide and coordinate clinically competent care for assigned inpatient dialysis patients
  • Perform ongoing pre-, during-, and post-treatment patient assessment and document findings
  • Adjust treatment plans as indicated and notify supervisors, physicians, and nurses
  • Assess and provide patient and family education
  • Recognize and report abnormal patient status and collaborate with the healthcare team
  • Direct and provide safe, effective modality-specific treatment procedures
  • Coordinate patient-care needs with direct and ancillary staff
  • Communicate with FKC and non-FKC dialysis providers and facility personnel to ensure continuity of care
  • Implement, administer, monitor, and document intradialytic transfusions and adverse reactions
  • Administer medications and document medical justification and effectiveness
  • Initiate and assist with emergency response measures
  • Serve as a healthcare-team resource and participate in staff training and new-staff orientation
  • Provide specialized nursing-care instruction to hospital/facility staff when assigned
  • Assist in outpatient facilities as needed
  • Complete CAP requirements for advancement
  • Supervise Patient Care Technicians, LVN/LPNs, and RNs as designated Nurse in Charge after completing required training and experience

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current appropriate state licensure
  • Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
  • Must meet the practice requirements in all states in which he or she is employed
  • Minimum 9 months experience as a Registered Nurse (12 months preferred)
  • 6 months acute dialysis experience (preferred)
  • Hemodialysis and/or ICU experience (preferred)
  • Must be able to perform direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods and bend over
  • May need to move machines/equipment up to 200 lbs. with assistance and lift chemical/water solutions up to 30 lbs. to 5 feet
  • Requires travel to training/meeting sites and between assigned facilities
  • Requires participation in on-call rotation, night, weekend, and holiday coverage as needed
