About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Explore, recommend, and coordinate insurance and potential financial assistance options for kidney dialysis patients
  • Educate dialysis patients about Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Supplement, State Renal programs, COBRA, and other insurance options
  • Ensure patients follow through with insurance applications and obtain required premium statements and signatures
  • Complete and follow up on paperwork for disputed claims and indigent waivers
  • Determine Medicare eligibility and assist eligible patients with applications
  • Liaise with local Medicare agents regarding terminations and reinstatements
  • Complete annual open enrollment and Medicare reinstatement paperwork
  • Track 30-month coordination periods for patients on employer Group Health Plans
  • Monitor and verify patients' Medicaid status and determine spend-down amounts
  • Evaluate patients' financial information and determine eligibility for indigent programs
  • Maintain accurate insurance information for the Accounts Receivable Department
  • Research and resolve insurance anomalies and discrepancies
  • Meet with patients receiving direct insurance payments to ensure dialysis treatment payments owed to Fresenius are collected
  • Prepare, analyze, and review monthly caseload and billing reports
  • Audit billing-system insurance information and correct discrepancies
  • Provide QA team members with monthly insurance-status and action-plan information
  • Complete monthly audit exams and present insurance and financial assistance options as needed
  • Assist with assigned projects and other duties
  • Meet regularly with patients at clinics in the assigned region

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Social Work or other Healthcare focus preferred
  • 2 - 5 years' related experience; healthcare industry preferred
  • Experience with Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid systems a plus
  • Past patient interaction a plus
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Strong customer service philosophy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proficient with PCs and Microsoft Office applications
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Extensive local travel to clinics in a specified geographic area
