About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Function as part of the hemodialysis health care team under the direction or supervision of a Staff Registered Nurse
  • Provide safe and effective chronic hemodialysis care to patients with end-stage renal disease
  • Direct and monitor Patient Care Technicians and other direct patient care staff
  • Delegate tasks and develop daily patient care assignments
  • Educate patients and families about renal disease, vascular access, dialysis therapy, diet, medications, laboratory values, transplant awareness, and treatment compliance
  • Assess patient response to treatment and adjust care plans as indicated by the prescribing physician
  • Initiate nursing assessments and document patient care needs
  • Monitor and provide hemodialysis access care and troubleshoot access flow issues
  • Administer and document transfusions, medications, vaccinations, immunizations, and emergency interventions
  • Review, process, document, and report laboratory orders, specimens, and abnormal results
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to coordinate patient care
  • Maintain safe, clean, sanitary treatment areas and competency with dialysis equipment
  • Ensure accurate medical records, treatment sheets, patient care plans, CQI activities, and monthly and annual assessments
  • Coordinate patient transportation when necessary
  • Follow company policies, state and federal regulations, and compliance requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduated from an accredited nursing program within the past 12 months
  • Required to obtain nursing license and registration within the timeline defined by state regulations, or within 90 days of hire, whichever occurs first
  • Current appropriate state Temporary Permit
  • Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
  • Capable of working in a challenging environment requiring heavy lifting, multitasking, flexibility, prolonged standing, bending, and moving patients
  • Must pass the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment, with reasonable accommodation considered
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
