About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide safe and effective hemodialysis therapy as part of the health care team under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Work toward obtaining a nursing license
  • Perform pre-treatment vascular access evaluations
  • Perform and document pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weights, and vital signs
  • Cannulate vascular access and report difficulties or unusual findings
  • Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed blood-flow and dialysate-flow orders
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide prescribed interventions
  • Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy
  • Perform reinfusion, treatment discontinuation, hemostasis, dressing, and discharge procedures
  • Document patient treatment information and interventions in the patient health record
  • Report significant information or changes in patient condition to the nurse supervisor
  • Obtain prescribed laboratory tests and prepare specimens
  • Prepare dialysis equipment, supplies, and treatment areas
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machines, chairs, equipment, and surrounding areas
  • Perform pretreatment dialysis machine setup and testing
  • Enter treatment data into the clinical application
  • Review and complete health care records
  • Prepare lab requisitions and collect, label, prepare, store, and coordinate courier collection of specimens
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduated from an accredited nursing program within the past 12 months
  • Required to obtain nursing license within 90 days of employment
  • Must maintain required credentials or certifications in active and valid status
  • Ability to handle demanding situations, multitask, and remain flexible to changing needs
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Must pass the Ishihara's Color Blindness test, with reasonable accommodations considered
  • Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods and bend over
  • Ability to push or pull equipment with up to 15 pounds of force
  • Ability to lift and lower solutions up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various community locations as required
