About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Function as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team under the direction or supervision of a Staff Registered Nurse
  • Provide safe and effective chronic hemodialysis care to patients with end-stage renal disease
  • Direct and monitor Patient Care Technicians and delegate tasks to direct patient care staff
  • Assess daily patient care needs and develop patient care assignments
  • Provide patients and families with education regarding ESRD, vascular access, dialysis therapy, diet, medications, laboratory values, and treatment compliance
  • Implement treatment prescriptions and assess patient responses, adjusting treatment plans as indicated by the prescribing physician
  • Perform nursing assessments, ongoing evaluations, documentation, access care, transfusion monitoring, and emergency interventions
  • Review, enter, process, and follow up on physician lab orders and specimens; report abnormal results to physicians
  • Maintain safe, efficient, clean, and sanitary dialysis facility operations
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to coordinate patient care
  • Administer prescribed and PRN medications, vaccinations, immunizations, and emergency measures
  • Maintain patient records, treatment sheets, care plans, progress notes, CQI activities, and required monthly and annual documentation
  • Ensure dialysis equipment, patient stations, emergency equipment, drug lists, and facility procedures are maintained appropriately
  • Coordinate patient transportation when necessary
  • Participate in staff training, orientation, meetings, and process improvement activities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduated from an accredited nursing program within the past 12 months
  • Required to obtain nursing license and registration within the timeline defined by state regulations, or within 90 days of hire, whichever occurs first
  • Current appropriate state Temporary Permit
  • Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
  • Must pass the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; failing does not preclude employment if reasonable accommodation can be made
  • Ability to handle demanding situations, multitask, and remain flexible to changing needs
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
  • Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, and moving equipment
  • Ability to lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
  • Ability to occasionally move machines and equipment up to 200 lbs. with assistance
  • Must maintain required credentials or certifications in active and valid status
