About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Function as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team under the direction or supervision of a Staff Registered Nurse
- Provide safe and effective chronic hemodialysis care to patients with end-stage renal disease
- Direct and monitor Patient Care Technicians and delegate tasks to direct patient care staff
- Assess daily patient care needs and develop patient care assignments
- Educate patients and families about renal disease, vascular access, dialysis therapy, diet, medications, laboratory values, transplant and treatment modalities
- Implement treatment prescriptions, monitor patient responses, and adjust treatment plans as indicated
- Perform nursing assessments, ongoing evaluations, documentation, access care, transfusions, medications, vaccinations, and emergency interventions
- Review, enter, process, and follow up on physician lab orders and specimens
- Communicate patient issues, abnormal laboratory results, and care concerns to physicians and the healthcare team
- Maintain accurate patient records, physician orders, treatment data, progress notes, care plans, and quality improvement reports
- Ensure safe, clean, sanitary, and properly equipped dialysis treatment areas
- Maintain competency in dialysis equipment operation and emergency procedures
- Collaborate with the Clinical Manager, physicians, and other healthcare team members
- Participate in staff training, orientation, meetings, CQI activities, and opening and closing procedures
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduated from an accredited nursing program within the past 12 months
- Required to obtain nursing license and registration within the timeline defined by state regulations, or within 90 days of hire, whichever occurs first
- Current appropriate state Temporary Permit
- Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
- Ability to handle heavy lifting and moving of patients and assist with ambulation
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and bend over
- Ability to occasionally move machines and equipment up to 200 lbs. with assistance
- Ability to lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
- Must take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
- Must maintain required credentials or certifications in active and valid status
