About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Function as part of the hemodialysis health care team under the direct supervision of a registered nurse
  • Provide direct patient care for assigned patients
  • Perform technical aspects of prescribed dialysis procedures and administer and monitor treatments
  • Monitor and document dialysis treatment parameters and patient-care information
  • Report significant information, changes in patient condition, equipment problems, incidents, complaints, and other issues to the supervisor
  • Assist with patient and family education regarding end stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medications
  • Assist with emergency operational procedures and initiate basic CPR during cardiac or pulmonary arrest
  • Administer intravenous medication in accordance with physician orders and state nurse practice laws
  • Perform and document pre-, interim-, and post-treatment reviews of patient condition
  • Safely operate and perform minor troubleshooting on dialysis and emergency equipment
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary treatment environment
  • Participate in staff meetings, patient care plan meetings, and in-service classes
  • Act as a resource for staff and coordinate care plans with physicians, dietitians, and social workers
  • Provide coverage at area facilities and travel between assigned facilities and community locations as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing (LPN, LVN)
  • Current appropriate State licensure
  • One year medical-surgical nursing experience preferred
  • Hemodialysis experience preferred but not required
  • ICU experience preferred but not required
  • Successfully complete a training course in the theory and practice of hemodialysis
  • Successfully complete CPR Certification
  • Must complete the Nurses Technical Training Program upon hire or soon thereafter
  • Ability to provide coverage at area facilities during times of short-staffing or as required
  • Employees must meet the necessary requirements of Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Must be able to perform heavy lifting and moving of patients, assist with ambulation, stand for prolonged periods, bend over, and move equipment weighing up to 200 lbs. with assistance
  • Must comply with drug-free workplace requirements
