About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct patient care for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse
  • Perform technical aspects of prescribed hemodialysis procedures
  • Administer and monitor dialysis treatments according to treatment plans or supervisor direction
  • Monitor and document dialysis treatment parameters and patient-care information
  • Report significant information, patient-condition changes, equipment problems, incidents, complaints, and other issues to the supervisor
  • Assist with patient and family education regarding end-stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medications
  • Assist with emergency operational procedures and initiate basic CPR during cardiac or pulmonary arrest
  • Administer intravenous medication according to physician orders and state nurse practice laws
  • Perform and document pre-, interim, and post-treatment patient-condition reviews
  • Safely operate dialysis and emergency equipment and perform minor troubleshooting
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary dialysis treatment environment
  • Address blood spills according to FMCNA Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies
  • Participate in staff meetings, care-plan meetings, and scheduled in-service classes
  • Coordinate care plans with physicians, dietitians, and social workers
  • Act as a resource for other staff members
  • Provide coverage at area facilities during short-staffing or as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing (LPN, LVN)
  • Current appropriate State licensure
  • One year medical-surgical nursing experience preferred
  • Hemodialysis experience preferred but not required
  • ICU experience preferred but not required
  • Successfully complete a training course in the theory and practice of hemodialysis
  • Successfully complete CPR Certification
  • Must complete the Nurses Technical Training Program upon hire or soon thereafter
  • Ability to provide coverage at area facilities during times of short-staffing or as required
  • Must meet the necessary requirements of Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and move patients with assistance
  • Ability to frequently stand for prolonged periods and bend over
  • Ability to move machines and equipment weighing up to 200 lbs. with assistance
  • Ability to lift chemical water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
  • Willingness and ability to travel between assigned facilities and various community locations
  • Must work in a healthcare environment with possible exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
  • Must comply with drug-free workplace requirements
