About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide and coordinate clinically competent care for an assigned group of patients
  • Perform ongoing collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment
  • Document patient data in medical records and modify treatment plans as indicated
  • Assess and provide initial and ongoing education to patients and families
  • Direct and provide safe and effective hemodialysis therapy with patient care staff
  • Administer medications and document medical justification and effectiveness
  • Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
  • Serve as a resource for the healthcare team and participate in staff training and new-staff orientation
  • Ensure laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures are performed
  • Identify expected outcomes and update nursing assessments and plans of care in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team
  • Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options
  • Complete CAP requirements for advancement
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current appropriate state licensure
  • Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
  • Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
  • Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of 9 months experience as a RN for assigned oversight duties
  • Minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN for assigned oversight duties
  • Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience preferred
  • Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods and bend over
  • Ability to move machines and equipment up to 200 lbs. with assistance
  • Ability to lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
  • Must be able to work in a healthcare facility environment and may be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
