About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide and coordinate clinically competent care for an assigned group of patients
- Assess, plan, intervene, evaluate, and document patient care before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment
- Delegate appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff
- Adjust treatment plans and notify the appropriate clinical personnel as needed
- Assess and provide initial and ongoing education to patients and families
- Direct and provide safe and effective daily hemodialysis therapy
- Administer prescribed medications and document medical justification and effectiveness
- Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
- Serve as a resource for the health care team and participate in staff training and new-staff orientation
- Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, shipping, and rescheduling procedures
- Update nursing assessments and plans of care in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team
- Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options
- Complete CAP requirements to advance
- Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current appropriate state licensure
- Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
- Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
- Minimum of 9 months experience as a RN for assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians/LPNs/LVNs/RNs
- Minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN for assigned oversight
- Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
- Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience preferred
- Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, and occasional movement of equipment up to 200 lbs and chemical/water solutions up to 30 lbs
- May require travel to training sites or other facilities
