About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide and coordinate clinically competent care for an assigned group of outpatient dialysis patients
- Perform ongoing collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment
- Document patient data in medical records and modify treatment plans as indicated
- Assess and provide patient and family education
- Direct and provide safe and effective hemodialysis therapy with patient care staff
- Administer medications and document medical justification and effectiveness
- Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
- Serve as a resource for the health care team and participate in staff training and new staff orientation
- Ensure laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures
- Update nursing assessments and plans of care in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team
- Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options
- Complete Clinical Advancement Program requirements
- Float across clinics in Iowa, Illinois, and Nebraska
- Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor
Requirements
What you’ll need- Dialysis experience required for this float position covering Iowa, Illinois, and Nebraska clinics
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current appropriate state licensure
- Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
- Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
- Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
- Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience preferred
- Must have a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN for assigned oversight duties
- Must have a minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN for assigned oversight duties
- Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and bend over
- Ability to move machines and equipment up to 200 lbs. with assistance
- Ability to lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
- Ability to work with infectious and contagious diseases/materials
- Ability to perform desk work, computer work, and interact with patients, facility/hospital staff, and physicians
