About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide and coordinate clinically competent care for assigned dialysis patients
- Assess, plan, intervene and evaluate patient care before, during and after hemodialysis treatment
- Collect and analyze patient data and document it in medical records
- Modify treatment plans and notify clinical leadership or physicians as needed
- Assess and provide patient and family education
- Direct and provide safe, effective daily hemodialysis therapy
- Administer medications and document medical justification and effectiveness
- Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
- Serve as a resource, leader, coach, mentor and role model for employees
- Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing and shipping procedures
- Update nursing assessments and plans of care in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team
- Educate patients about transplant and treatment modality options
- Participate in educational and quality improvement projects
- May serve as a preceptor to new employees
- Complete CAP requirements to maintain or advance
- Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current appropriate state licensure
- Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
- Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Nephrology Nursing as a RN
- Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience (preferred)
- 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN required for assigned oversight as Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge
- Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing and bending
- Ability to move machines and equipment up to 200 lbs. with assistance
- Ability to lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
- May be required to travel to training sites or other facilities
