About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide and coordinate clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
  • Delegate appropriate tasks to RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians
  • Participate in decision-making, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement activities for the ESKD healthcare team
  • Collect and analyze patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment
  • Document patient data in medical records and modify treatment plans as indicated
  • Notify clinical leadership or physicians of patient status and treatment needs
  • Assess and document patient and family learning needs and provide education
  • Direct and provide safe and effective daily hemodialysis therapy
  • Administer prescribed medications and document medical justification and effectiveness
  • Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
  • Serve as a resource, leader, coach, mentor, and role model for employees
  • Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, shipping, and rescheduling procedures
  • Update nursing assessments and plans of care in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team
  • Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options
  • Participate in facility- and area-level education and quality improvement projects
  • May serve as a preceptor to new employees
  • Complete CAP requirements to maintain or advance
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current appropriate state licensure
  • Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
  • Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
  • Minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN for assigned oversight duties
  • Entry level for RNs with minimum of 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience
  • Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods and bend over
  • Ability to move, with assistance, machines and equipment up to 200 lbs.
  • Ability to lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
  • Willingness/ability to travel to training sites or other facilities as required
