About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Assist with maintenance of a safe and clean working environment
  • Educate patients regarding adequacy measures, disease process, and vascular access
  • Welcome patients and assess wellbeing, vascular access, vital signs, weight, and treatment response
  • Cannulate vascular access and administer heparin as delegated or permitted by state law
  • Initiate, monitor, document, and discontinue dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders and established procedures
  • Evaluate and intervene in intradialytic problems as directed
  • Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, treatment time, and UF modeling
  • Perform machine safety checks and report significant changes or unusual findings to the registered nurse or supervisor
  • Obtain laboratory tests and collect, label, prepare, store, and arrange collection of specimens
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machines, chairs, equipment, and surrounding areas between treatments
  • Participate in CQI activities and enter treatment data accurately and timely into clinical applications
  • Prepare patient charts and laboratory requisitions; review treatment sheets for completeness
  • Support infection-control practices, audits, and patient/family education
  • Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and coordinate transitional dialysis care
  • Reinforce education on home dialysis and treatment options, demonstrate peritoneal dialysis setup, and assist with modality transitions
  • Set up and perform treatments on all machines used in the transitional care unit
  • Assist with TCU supply ordering and inventory
  • Assist in training applicable direct patient-care staff under nurse supervision

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
  • All appropriate state licensure, education, and training required
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
  • Continued employment is dependent on successful completion of the organization dialysis training program
  • Continued employment is dependent on successful completion of CPR certification
  • Must pass the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; reasonable accommodations will be considered
  • Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting and moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various community locations; regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meeting travel may be required
