About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Welcome assigned patients and assess their wellbeing
  • Evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, administer delegated heparin, and monitor access during treatment
  • Obtain and document pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weights, evaluations, and treatment parameters
  • Initiate and discontinue dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders and established procedures
  • Monitor patient responses, evaluate intradialytic problems, and perform prescribed interventions
  • Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, treatment time, and UF modeling
  • Perform machine safety checks and ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled
  • Report significant changes or unusual findings to the registered nurse or supervisor
  • Obtain laboratory tests, collect and prepare specimens, and coordinate courier collection
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machines, chairs, equipment, and surrounding areas between treatments
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and environmentally compliant work area
  • Enter treatment data accurately and timely into the designated clinical application
  • Review treatment sheets, complete records, prepare patient charts, and conduct CQI activities
  • Support infection-control audits, practices, and patient/family education
  • Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and coordinate transitional dialysis care
  • Reinforce education about home dialysis, treatment options, and peritoneal dialysis setup
  • Coordinate transitions to patients' chosen modality and assist with TCU supply ordering and inventory
  • Assist in training applicable direct patient care staff under nursing supervision

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
  • All appropriate state licensure, education, and training (if any) required
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
  • Continued employment is dependent on successful completion of the organization dialysis training program and successful completion of CPR certification
  • Must pass the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; reasonable accommodations may be considered
  • Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, and lifting/lowering solutions up to 30 lbs frequently and 40 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various community locations; regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meeting travel may be required
