About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated or permitted by state law
  • Obtain and document pre-, intra-, and post-treatment vital signs, weights, assessments, and treatment parameters
  • Initiate and discontinue dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders and established procedures
  • Monitor patient responses, evaluate intradialytic problems, and perform prescribed interventions
  • Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, treatment time, and UF modeling
  • Perform machine safety checks and ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled
  • Report significant patient information, changes, and unusual findings to the registered nurse or supervisor
  • Obtain laboratory tests, collect and prepare specimens, and coordinate laboratory courier collection
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment; clean and disinfect dialysis machines, chairs, equipment, and surrounding areas
  • Conduct pretreatment machine alarm testing and initiate the Solution Delivery System
  • Enter treatment data accurately and review treatment sheets and patient charts for completeness
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement and infection control activities
  • Support infection control education for patients and families under the direction of the CM or designee
  • Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and coordinate transitional dialysis care
  • Reinforce education about treatment options, home dialysis products, and home dialysis benefits
  • Set up and perform treatments on machines used in the Transitional Care Unit
  • Assist with modality transitions, supply ordering, and TCU inventory
  • Assist in training applicable direct patient care staff under nurse supervision

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
  • All appropriate state licensure, education, and training required
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred
  • Continued employment dependent on successful completion of the organization dialysis training program and CPR certification
  • Must pass the Ishihara Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; reasonable accommodations may be considered
  • Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods and bend over
  • Ability to push/pull equipment with up to 15 pounds of force
  • Ability to frequently lift/lower solutions up to 30 lbs. and occasionally up to 40 lbs. as high as 5 feet
  • Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various community locations; regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meeting travel may be required
  • Ability to work in a healthcare facility environment with potential exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
