About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Welcome assigned patients and assess their wellbeing
  • Evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, administer heparin as delegated or permitted by law
  • Obtain and document pre-, intra-, and post-treatment vital signs, weights, and evaluations
  • Initiate and discontinue dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders and established procedures
  • Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, treatment time, and UF modeling
  • Monitor patients’ responses, evaluate intradialytic problems, and perform prescribed interventions
  • Perform machine safety checks and ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled
  • Document treatment parameters, patient status, interventions, and treatment records accurately and timely
  • Report significant information, patient-condition changes, and unusual findings to the registered nurse or supervisor
  • Obtain laboratory testing and collect, label, prepare, store, and arrange courier collection of specimens
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment; disinfect machines, chairs, equipment, and surrounding areas between treatments
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement, infection-control audits, and patient/family infection-control education
  • Train applicable direct patient care staff under nurse supervision
  • Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and coordinate transitional dialysis care
  • Educate patients on home dialysis products, benefits, treatment options, and peritoneal dialysis setup
  • Coordinate transitions to patients’ chosen modality and assist with TCU supply ordering and inventory
  • Enter treatment data, review treatment sheets, correct omissions, and prepare patient charts and lab requisitions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
  • All appropriate state licensure, education, and training required
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
  • Successful completion of the organization dialysis training program required for continued employment
  • Successful completion of CPR certification required for continued employment
  • Ability to perform direct patient care involving heavy lifting and moving patients
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods and bend over
  • Ability to push/pull equipment with up to 15 pounds of force
  • Ability to lift/lower solutions up to 30 lbs. frequently and up to 40 lbs. occasionally
  • Must pass the Ishihara Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; reasonable accommodations considered
  • Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various community locations; regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meeting travel may be required
