About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
- Set up and operate hemodialysis machines
- Evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, administer delegated heparin, and monitor access pressures
- Obtain and document pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weights, evaluations, and treatment parameters
- Initiate, monitor, intervene in, and discontinue dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders and established procedures
- Monitor patient responses and report significant changes or unusual findings to the registered nurse or supervisor
- Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, treatment time, and UF modeling
- Perform machine safety checks and ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled
- Obtain laboratory tests, prepare specimens, and coordinate collection by laboratory courier
- Clean and disinfect dialysis machines, chairs, equipment, and treatment areas
- Conduct pretreatment machine alarm testing and initiate the Solution Delivery System
- Complete clinical documentation, treatment sheets, patient charts, lab requisitions, and CQI records
- Assist with infection control audits and reinforce infection control education
- Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and coordinate transitional care
- Educate patients about treatment options, home dialysis, and peritoneal dialysis setup
- Coordinate transitions to patients' chosen dialysis modality
- Assist with TCU supply ordering and inventory
- Assist in training direct patient care staff under nurse supervision
- Monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or G.E.D. required
- Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
- All appropriate state licensure, education, and training required
- Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
- Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
- Continued employment dependent on successful completion of the organization dialysis training program
- Continued employment dependent on successful completion of CPR certification
- Must pass the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; reasonable accommodations considered
- Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting and moving patients
- Ability to frequently stand for prolonged periods and bend over
- Ability to occasionally push/pull equipment with up to 15 pounds of force
- Ability to frequently lift/lower solutions up to 30 lbs. and occasionally up to 40 lbs. as high as 5 feet
- Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various community locations
- Must follow applicable federal and state laws and organization policies
- Must support infection control practices and procedures
