About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Assist with vascular access evaluation, cannulation, heparin administration, and treatment procedures
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, weights, treatment parameters, and evaluations
  • Initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders
  • Evaluate and intervene in intradialytic problems as directed
  • Monitor patient responses and report significant changes to the registered nurse or supervisor
  • Perform machine safety checks and maintain accurate treatment documentation
  • Obtain laboratory tests, prepare specimens, and coordinate specimen collection
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis equipment and treatment areas
  • Participate in CQI and infection control activities
  • Support patient and family education regarding dialysis, infection control, access, and treatment options
  • Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and coordinate transitional care
  • Support home dialysis education and modality transition
  • Set up and perform treatments on machines used in the transitional care unit
  • Assist with supply ordering and inventory for the transitional care unit
  • Assist in training applicable direct patient care staff under nurse supervision

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
  • All appropriate state licensure, education, and training required
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred
  • Continued employment dependent on successful completion of the organization dialysis training program and CPR certification
  • Employees are required to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment
  • Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting and moving patients
  • Ability to frequently stand for prolonged periods and bend over
  • Ability to push/pull equipment with up to 15 pounds of force
  • Ability to frequently lift/lower solutions up to 30 lbs. and occasionally up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various community locations
