About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, administer delegated heparin, and monitor access pressures
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, weights, treatment parameters, evaluations, and responses
  • Initiate, monitor, intervene in, and discontinue dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders and procedures
  • Calculate and enter ultrafiltration goals, treatment time, and UF modeling
  • Perform machine safety checks and ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled
  • Report significant information, changes in patient condition, and unusual findings to the registered nurse or supervisor
  • Obtain laboratory tests, prepare and handle specimens, and coordinate laboratory courier collection
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment and disinfect dialysis equipment and treatment areas
  • Monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision
  • Assist with training direct patient care staff under nurse supervision
  • Participate in CQI activities and enter treatment data accurately into clinical applications
  • Prepare patient charts and laboratory requisitions and review treatment records for completeness
  • Support infection control audits, practices, and patient/family education
  • Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and coordinate transitional dialysis care
  • Reinforce education about home dialysis, treatment options, and peritoneal dialysis setup
  • Coordinate transitions to patients' selected dialysis modality
  • Set up and perform treatments on machines used in the transitional care unit
  • Assist with supply ordering and inventory for the transitional care unit

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
  • All appropriate state licensure, education, and training required
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
  • Continued employment is dependent on successful completion of the organization dialysis training program
  • Continued employment is dependent on successful completion of CPR certification
  • Employees are required to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment
  • Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting and moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
  • Must follow infection control policies and procedures
