About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Assist with patient-specific education regarding adequacy measures, disease processes, and vascular access
  • Welcome patients and assess wellbeing
  • Evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, administer heparin as delegated or permitted by state law
  • Obtain and document pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weights, evaluations, and treatment parameters
  • Initiate, monitor, intervene in, and discontinue dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders and established procedures
  • Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, treatment time, and UF modeling
  • Monitor patients, machine safety, vascular access pressures, alarms, and responses to interventions; report changes to the RN or supervisor
  • Obtain laboratory tests, prepare specimens, clean blood spills, and manage supplies and equipment
  • Monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision
  • Participate in recruitment, clinical orientation, ongoing training, competency evaluations, audits, and preceptor activities for PCTs and facility staff
  • Collaborate with Clinical Managers, Education Coordinators, RNs, and interdisciplinary teams on quality standards, training, CQI, regulatory requirements, and facility safety
  • Maintain environmental integrity; clean and disinfect dialysis equipment and treatment areas
  • Perform pretreatment machine alarm testing and initiate the Solution Delivery System
  • Enter and review treatment data, treatment sheets, patient charts, lab requisitions, and specimen records
  • Support infection-control audits, education, adherence monitoring, surveys, and staff/patient engagement
  • Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and coordinate transitional dialysis care
  • Educate patients on treatment options and home dialysis, demonstrate peritoneal dialysis setup, coordinate modality transitions, and manage TCU supplies and inventory

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or its equivalent required
  • Must have a valid PCT national certification or state-specific certification as defined by CMS
  • Must have CCHT certification
  • All appropriate state licensure, education, and training required
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
  • Attendance and active participation in applicable preceptor training programs
  • At least five years of patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred
  • Continued employment dependent on successful completion of the organization dialysis training program
  • Continued employment dependent on successful completion of CPR certification
  • Must pass the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; failing does not preclude employment and reasonable accommodation may be considered
  • Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting and moving patients, assisting with ambulation, frequent prolonged standing, bending, and lifting solutions up to 30 lbs frequently and 40 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various community locations; regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meeting travel may be required
  • Ability to work in a healthcare environment with possible exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
