About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Assist with vascular access evaluation, cannulation, heparin administration, and hemostasis
  • Obtain and document pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weights, evaluations, and treatment parameters
  • Initiate, monitor, intervene in, and discontinue dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders and established procedures
  • Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, treatment time, and UF modeling
  • Monitor patients, machine safety, vascular access, alarms, and responses to interventions
  • Report significant information, changes in patient condition, and unusual findings to the registered nurse or supervisor
  • Obtain laboratory testing, prepare and collect specimens, and coordinate specimen courier collection
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machines, chairs, equipment, and surrounding areas between treatments
  • Participate in quality improvement, infection control, training, and patient/family education activities
  • Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and coordinate transitional dialysis care
  • Support education on home dialysis, treatment options, and peritoneal dialysis setup
  • Set up and perform treatments on machines used in the transitional care unit
  • Assist with supply ordering and inventory for the transitional care unit
  • Travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • CCHT is required for this role
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
  • All appropriate state licensure, education, and training required
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
  • Continued employment is dependent on successful completion of the organization dialysis training program
  • Continued employment is dependent on successful completion of CPR certification
  • Employees are required to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; failing does not preclude employment
  • Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and moving of patients, assist with ambulation, stand for prolonged periods, bend over, and lift/lower solutions up to 30 lbs frequently and 40 lbs occasionally
