About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Assist with maintaining a safe and clean working environment
  • Support the Quality Enhancement Program and Continuous Quality Improvement activities
  • Educate patients regarding adequacy measures, disease process, and vascular access
  • Welcome patients and inquire about their wellbeing
  • Evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated or permitted by state law
  • Obtain and document pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weights, and vascular access evaluations
  • Initiate and discontinue dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders and established procedures
  • Monitor patient responses and evaluate and intervene in intradialytic problems
  • Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, treatment time, and UF modeling
  • Perform machine safety checks and ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled
  • Document treatment parameters, patient evaluations, interventions, and progress notes accurately and timely
  • Report significant information, changes in condition, and unusual findings to the registered nurse or supervisor
  • Obtain laboratory testing and collect, label, prepare, store, and arrange courier collection of specimens
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis equipment and treatment areas between treatments
  • Conduct pretreatment machine alarm testing and initiate the Solution Delivery System
  • Assist in training direct patient care staff under nurse supervision
  • Participate in infection control audits, practices, and patient/family education
  • Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and coordinate transitional dialysis care
  • Support education about home dialysis, treatment options, and peritoneal dialysis setup
  • Set up and perform treatments on all machines used in the transitional care unit
  • Coordinate transitions to patients’ chosen modality and assist with TCU supply ordering and inventory
  • Travel between assigned facilities and attend regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meetings as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • CCHT is required for this role
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
  • All appropriate state licensure, education, and training required
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
  • Successful completion of the organization dialysis training program
  • Successful completion of CPR certification
  • Must pass the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; reasonable accommodations will be considered
  • Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
  • Ability to perform direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, pushing/pulling equipment, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work around infectious and contagious diseases/materials
