About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Advise the partnership on global business acceptance issues involving conflicts of interest, confidential information, reputational risk, and sanctions
  • Undertake due diligence and reputational risk assessments of new clients and matters
  • Help resolve conflicts, confidentiality, reputational and commercial risks, AML compliance, and sanctions issues
  • Draft waivers and maintain information barriers
  • Advise partners, associates, and staff on US law, regulations, conflicts, ethics, and regulatory compliance
  • Review and advise on client engagement letters and outside counsel guidelines
  • Advise on ethics and regulatory compliance matters, including audit letters, securities dealing, anti-bribery, outside appointments, legal practice, attorney advertising, fee-sharing, and fee arrangements
  • Assist with conflicts reviews for incoming lateral hires
  • Join sector teams and build relationships with Sector Group Leaders
  • Monitor global regulatory frameworks, particularly developments in New York, DC, California, and nationally in the US
  • Develop close working relationships across the Legal Department
  • Assist with risk training, New Hire Induction Training, and Intapp system training
  • Help develop and implement business acceptance processes and firm-wide programs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must hold a law degree
  • Must be admitted to practice law in the US
  • At least 4 years’ experience working as a qualified lawyer within a leading international law firm (desirable)
  • Experience in compliance, conflicts, risk management, business acceptance, professional responsibility, or attorney ethics (desirable)
  • Experience working in a large international team based across multiple locations (desirable)
  • High standards of accuracy and efficiency with a practical, common-sense approach
  • Ability to give clear, concise, commercial advice verbally and in writing on complex issues
  • Excellent drafting skills
  • Meticulous record-keeping skills
  • Ability to influence and liaise with legal and support staff at all levels
  • Ability to manage key projects and day-to-day queries
  • High level of IT skills, including Word, Outlook, Excel, web-based and general research skills
  • Willingness to work out of hours, including weekends, and travel as needed
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to understand complex conflicts and regulatory issues
  • Confidence, presence, diplomatic manner, proactive problem-solving, and pragmatic commercial thinking
  • Excellent communication, confidentiality, integrity, professionalism, organization, prioritization, multitasking, and continuous improvement skills
