About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage, process, and analyze information to develop client solutions
- Assist team leaders with analytic support and drafting advisory services
- Develop written reports explaining procedures employed
- Work independently and take initiative in solving day-to-day problems
- Produce quality output that can withstand scrutiny from regulators and other stakeholders
- Provide data-driven insights on U.S. power and natural gas markets
- Support strategic planning, long-term resource planning, asset transactions, due diligence, quantitative policy analysis, regulatory filings, and expert testimony
- Communicate with clients and staff on engagements
- Update senior team members on progress and issues
- Manage and delegate data processing and quantitative analysis tasks across multiple workstreams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Environmental Science or a related quantitative field
- 4+ years of relevant full-time professional work experience post-graduation
- Quantitative analysis of energy systems, power and natural gas markets, forecasting models, and large dataset processing
- Ability to travel to FTI offices and clients
- Strong analytic and quantitative skills, including power or gas market simulation, capacity expansion, and/or production cost modeling
- Experience working with large and complex datasets and building reproducible, well-documented analysis
- Ability to write memoranda describing procedures and summarizing research or analysis
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to explain complicated concepts concisely to clients and staff
- Ability to support and direct client and staff communications
- Commitment to collaboration and maintaining positive professional relationships
- Positive, professional, and solutions-oriented attitude
- Resilience and ability to work in a deadline-driven environment
- Outstanding problem-solving and analytic skills
- Strong business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related business field
- Familiarity with electric power and natural gas industries, wholesale market structures, and major U.S. ISO/RTO markets
- Ability to learn new concepts quickly and maintain a service-oriented attitude
- Ability to analyze data using SQL and Microsoft Excel
- Project management experience involving senior-level team members and clients
- Technical writing skills, including footnotes, citations, and formatting tables and figures
- Experience evaluating fundamental market drivers for natural gas and electricity
- Proficiency with PLEXOS, AURORA, or similar power market simulation tools
- Proficiency with R, Python, or SQL for building reproducible workflows
- Ability to manage and delegate data processing and quantitative analysis tasks across multiple workstreams
