About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and implement Space Domain Awareness algorithms for object detection, tracking, and characterization
  • Analyze SDA datasets and simulations to improve space situational awareness and decision-making
  • Apply statistics, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to identify patterns and develop solutions
  • Perform image processing, coordinate transformations, sensor calibration, and related analysis
  • Develop production-quality Python and Java/Spring Boot code
  • Apply version control, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD practices
  • Containerize algorithms and services with Docker for Kubernetes deployment
  • Participate in design, implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring across the full development lifecycle
  • Collaborate with SDA and EOIR experts to refine requirements and validate results
  • Partner with software engineers to integrate scientific algorithms into deployable services
  • Present technical results to customers, gather feedback, and define future tasking
  • Communicate complex technical results to technical and non-technical audiences

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master’s degree in Astronomy, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline
  • 6+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong technical background in astronomy or physics
  • Practical knowledge of telescopes and optical systems, including observation planning or mission design
  • Experience with standard astronomical data analysis and reduction procedures
  • Strong mathematical foundation and experience applying statistical methods to scientific data
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance required; clearance must be upgraded with SCI
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Programming fluency in Python with scientific computing libraries such as NumPy and SciPy
  • Experience with Java development; Spring Boot strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins
  • Working knowledge of MongoDB or similar document databases
  • Proficiency with Git
  • Experience writing automated unit and integration tests
  • STK, OD++ or similar orbit determination software experience desired
