About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Research and identify small businesses in targeted industries and geographic markets
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of fully researched, call-ready acquisition opportunities in the shared Acquisition Pipeline Tracker
  • Conduct initial screening based on company size, years in business, location, and other target criteria
  • Research businesses using public records, licensing databases, trade groups, LinkedIn, and other available sources
  • Estimate company size and potential profitability when financial statements are unavailable
  • Identify business owners and determine the best available contact information
  • Prepare concise business summaries for the principal before owner outreach
  • Evaluate and score acquisition targets against established six-point criteria and provide reasoning
  • Prepare short follow-up emails for unreachable business owners
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date information in the shared Acquisition Pipeline Tracker
  • Communicate regularly with the principal regarding progress, findings, and search strategy
  • Identify targets with recurring revenue, diversified customers, growing industries, competitive advantages, and limited technology-disruption exposure
  • Support development of an organized acquisition-opportunity pipeline

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Exceptional English communication skills, written and verbal (C1 level minimum)
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude and eagerness to work with others and solve problems
  • Previous experience in M&A, corporate development, investment banking, private equity, search fund investing, or similar small-business screening/evaluation
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Strong research skills using public records, licensing databases, LinkedIn, trade groups, and other sources
  • Ability to estimate company size and potential profitability using indirect indicators
  • Strong independent judgment in identifying acquisition targets
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to summarize businesses clearly and concisely
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate research and company information
  • Ability to evaluate businesses based on industry growth, technology disruption, customer concentration, recurring revenue, supplier dependence, and competitive advantages
  • Fluent English required for all positions
