About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Set technical direction across the Surveillance estate
- Work through senior engineers on the hardest technical problems
- Establish patterns for correctness monitoring, escalation, incident response, and disaster recovery
- Enable product teams to define alerts, service levels, and response playbooks
- Own engineering craft standards across Surveillance, including testing, reviews, deployment, and change safety
- Ensure architectural decisions across teams are coherent and avoid duplicated solutions
- Set technical direction for client environment lifecycle management and software delivery to production
- Own engineering controls and technical evidence supporting security assurance
- Grow senior engineers' scope, design-review capability, and technical writing
- Improve cloud optimisation, capacity strategy, and client-level cost visibility
- Turn technical assurance into repeatable capabilities for enterprise clients
- Review deals for technical risk
- Represent architecture with client CISOs and technical stakeholders
- Review architecture, read and write code, and participate in incidents
- Formulate plans to deliver inherited technical goals
- Improve client onboarding automation, observability, deployment safety, cost visibility, ownership, and senior-engineer scope
Requirements
What you’ll need- Depth in a real technical area, such as distributed systems, data platforms, application and product engineering, machine learning, or platform and infrastructure
- Track record of hands-on, material impact through personally designed, built, or unblocked work
- Breadth to challenge technical specialists and identify weak assumptions
- Experience leading senior engineers and giving them meaningful ownership
- Experience raising engineering standards beyond own team
- Implemented opinions and practices around testing, review, and change safety
- Comfortable working across distributed engineering centres
- Measurably improved developer productivity through paved paths, faster feedback, and removal of unnecessary internal complexity
- Understanding of security engineering controls, including identity and access management, privileged access, workload identity, and client environment isolation
- Comfortable providing technical assurance to enterprise customers and engaging with client CISOs
- Comfortable across architecture, code, incidents, client conversations, and commercial considerations
- Familiarity with AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, EKS, Terraform, Helm, GitOps, CI/CD, Elasticsearch, Kafka, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Python services, observability, Prometheus, multi-fleet and multi-cell client environment architecture, and cloud/Kubernetes security
- Permission to work in the UK without visa sponsorship
