About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, build and operate AWS cloud infrastructure, including IAM, EC2, EKS, networking, databases, serverless and analytics services
- Own Terraform infrastructure-as-code and delivery pipelines across environments
- Design for resilience, maintainability, availability, security, observability, capacity and operability
- Integrate and configure third-party services securely and reliably
- Use Python and other languages to automate DevOps tasks and support production capabilities
- Identify, document and remediate infrastructure and platform-level technical risks
- Design, build and maintain fast, reliable and secure CI/CD pipelines
- Build infrastructure-as-code security and guardrail solutions, including Helm charts, OPA policies and EKS admission controllers
- Improve build, test, release and deployment workflows with Engineering
- Contribute to environment and release management strategies
- Support Engineers during rollouts and deployments
- Collaborate with Engineering on application constraints and platform decisions
- Read, debug and reason about application code to support root-cause analysis and informed infrastructure decisions
- Represent DevOps in architecture, design and planning discussions
- Own infrastructure and delivery initiatives from proposal through delivery and operations
- Research emerging tools and practices and propose platform and operational improvements
- Support technical direction-setting and cover senior technical decisions when needed
- Document technical decisions through ADRs/RFCs and contribute to team standards and architectures
- Design observability using metrics, logs, tracing and alerting
- Apply SRE practices, lead incident response and blameless post-incident reviews, and eliminate recurring issues
- Improve signal quality, reduce alert noise and close observability gaps
- Evaluate and improve security resilience, IT/network controls and audit evidence
- Support corporate IT infrastructure, including Microsoft 365 and ZTNA
- Assist with SOC 2 and Cyber Essentials Plus compliance evidence, controls and remediation
- Participate in on-call rotas and share ownership of infrastructure and delivery platforms
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be based within the UK
- No visa sponsorship provided
- Extensive, hands-on infrastructure experience, including deep network architecture design, troubleshooting and reasoning
- Experience developing, deploying and supporting complex infrastructures
- Production-grade Infrastructure as Code experience, including design, state management and multi-environment workflows
- Scripting experience with languages such as Python
- Deep AWS knowledge across compute, networking, storage, IAM and managed services in a multi-account setup
- In-depth understanding of access controls, encryption, networking concepts and protocols
- Proven production experience designing and operating CI/CD delivery pipelines
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration, such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience implementing security and guardrail controls in Infrastructure as Code and Kubernetes environments
- Experience with monitoring and observability tooling, including metrics, logging, tracing and alerting
- SRE experience or equivalent, including production reliability, incident response and SLIs/SLOs
- Recent hands-on experience developing and supporting modern, multi-tenant systems
- Experience using AI-assisted tooling and workflows in day-to-day engineering
- Current DevOps practices and close collaboration with developers/engineers
- Track record of owning technical initiatives from design through delivery with minimal oversight
- Ability to operate as a credible technical peer in senior/lead-level design and architecture discussions
- Software development knowledge sufficient to read and reason about backend and/or frontend application code
- Understanding of resilience, security and operability, including failover, backup/recovery, least-privilege access, secrets management and observability
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Desirable: experience in a small or mid-sized organisation with separate but tightly coupled DevOps and Engineering teams
- Desirable: ADR and RFC practices
- Desirable: hands-on Kotlin/Java and/or React development experience
- Desirable: Microsoft 365 administration and/or ZTNA network solutions
- Desirable: SOC 2 and/or Cyber Essentials Plus certification or renewal support
