About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support product realization through cross-functional team collaboration
  • Manage portions of the new product design process
  • Lead portions of the design process and complete assigned tasks
  • Assist team members and help ensure project completion according to schedule
  • Develop schedules and coordinate and manage low-complexity projects with little to no supervision
  • Prepare budgets and define resource needs
  • Assist with Product Realization Stage Gate requirements
  • Ensure projects meet specification and standard requirements while promoting error-proof assembly
  • Create project test plans and complete internal and external test programs
  • Construct and test prototype components or assemblies
  • Review test data and ensure testing follows the test plan and pre-test calculations and meets or exceeds G&W requirements
  • Perform engineering analysis for new products and subcomponents
  • Perform formal root-cause analysis and troubleshoot new and existing products and processes
  • Prepare documentation of processes, material requirements, test results and project activity
  • Interface with purchasing and vendors regarding component and assembly selection and approval
  • Provide engineering support to Sales/Marketing and Manufacturing
  • Consult with customers regarding product requirements and specifications when design or manufacturing problems arise
  • Direct supporting Engineers, Designers and Technicians
  • Create and maintain CAD databases and libraries according to established procedures
  • Participate in engineering drawing reviews before release to manufacturing
  • Provide final approval of applicable drawings
  • Ensure parts and processes meet cost-efficiency and reliability goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 8+ years progressive experience in Engineering design and/or development
  • Experience working on highly technical and innovative projects with demonstrated ability to be constantly challenged with new problems
  • 3D parametric modeling
  • Finite element modeling and design feasibility analysis within mechanical, thermal and multi-physics environments
  • Strong technical knowledge in mechanism design, linkages, springs, statics, dynamics and material properties
  • Familiarity with casting, machining, molding, stamping and forming
  • Familiarity with new product development Stage Gate Process
  • Ability to write technical documents, including test reports, engineering standards and technical papers
  • Ability to read and interpret technical standards
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and through presentations across all levels of the organization
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with DFMEA and DOE required
  • Experience with GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Ability to use small hand and power tools
  • ProE/Creo and Finite Element Analysis ideally
  • Experience in medium/high voltage electrical power systems a plus
  • Experience with trip-free, stored-energy or actuated mechanism design a plus
  • Participation in E-Verify process for new hires
