About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage Process Engineering activities to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost metrics, focusing on EPOX manufacturing processes
  • Lead and/or actively participate in cost-of-quality problem-solving projects for Epox processes
  • Perform failure analysis and fatigue testing for molded products
  • Create sustainable processing methods and mistake-proof dedicated workcells
  • Advance processing techniques to support long-term growth and cost savings
  • Oversee research and development of manufacturing equipment/software, processes, policies, SOPs and work instructions
  • Review engineering deliverables for technical accuracy, engineering standards and project schedules
  • Support and improve JDE/QMS/MES and future data collection systems for business intelligence reporting and data analytics
  • Establish process controls and critical characteristics, and train personnel in their use
  • Develop and conduct process audits with Quality and molding departments
  • Mentor engineers and support staff
  • Maintain department quality and performance metrics
  • Review and write project reports
  • Assist in selecting and installing new equipment
  • Collaborate with cross-functional managers and departments
  • Prepare and deliver Process Engineering presentations
  • Apply thermoset polymer knowledge to new product development, feasibility studies and failure analysis
  • Use DOE, Gage R&R trials, A/B testing and statistical analysis for process sustainment and improvement
  • Lead basic project activities involving scope, schedule, cost, risk, resources and change management
  • Establish, track and manage project success metrics
  • Assist with the Molding Technology Lab and drive the Molding Innovation Center toward world-class status

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, Plastics/Polymer Processing, or Materials
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience in the field of materials processing
  • Strong understanding and experience executing Design of Experiments (DOE’s) and A/B testing
  • Strong understanding of Polymer rheology and test methods such as DSC, TGA, DMA and physical testing
  • Experience with failure analysis using standard techniques
  • Computer proficient; confident with data analysis programs
  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience using root cause analysis techniques such as 8D, 5Why, PDCA, and A3
  • Ability to mentor, motivate and develop less experienced colleagues
  • Demonstrable experience with new product production integration and/or operational improvement projects
  • Previous history with molding and characterizing two component liquid thermoset plastics, cast resin compounds and vacuum casting preferred
  • Experience with silicone molding is a plus
  • Liquid gelation molding and ring line dispensing systems experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of fluid dispensing systems or centralized material delivery systems monitored by distributed control systems is a plus
  • Skills and understanding of CAD, Pro-E and polymer flow simulation software preferred
  • Experience running simulation software and understanding material flow and material characterization for feeding simulation software preferred
  • Six Sigma, Red X, or other problem-solving certification or experience is a plus
  • Experience working cross-functionally with all levels of the organization structure
  • Polymer material rheology and flow simulation experience
