About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage Tooling Engineering and Toolroom activities and projects supporting safety, quality, delivery and cost metrics
- Manage Tooling Engineers supporting mold designs, machines, manual and automated operations, and new product development
- Define and execute tooling improvement projects, ensuring tool delivery meets product specifications, best practices, and timelines
- Drive revision control and data management for existing and new designs
- Lead cost reduction and quality problem-solving initiatives
- Create sustainable processing methods and mistake-proofing solutions
- Establish and maintain specifications for molding tooling, machine-related parts, and operation fixtures
- Collaborate with the NPD Team to verify design for manufacturability
- Maintain engineering documents, including solid models, assemblies, prints, and revisions
- Prioritize and direct tooling maintenance and repair activities based on production scheduling
- Mentor the team on structured problem solving, Gage R&R trials, A/B testing, and statistical analysis
- Lead and support the Tooling PM program
- Lead tool design improvements and changes
- Create and manage a visual tooling maintenance scheduling and tracking system
- Hire, train, mentor, and develop engineers and support staff
- Maintain department quality and performance metrics
- Write performance reviews, resolve departmental issues, review and write reports, approve expenditures, and enforce rules
- Recommend, plan, and direct installation of new equipment
- Communicate and collaborate with managers and other departments
- Prepare and deliver Manufacturing Engineering presentations
- Ensure mold designs are correct and manufacturable
- Manage project scope, schedule, cost, risk, resources, and changes
- Work with outside vendors for tooling repairs and external work
- Establish, track, and manage key project performance metrics
- Support training on EMS procedures, work instructions, standard work, and records
- Provide leadership consistent with company and business goals
- Develop high-potential talent with plant staff
- Drive the Tooling Department through changing demands
- Support the Director of North American Molding Technology in achieving departmental goals
Requirements
What you’ll need- A Bachelors in Mechanical/Industrial/Chemical/Plastics/Polymer Processing/Materials or equivalent experience in Tooling and Mold Development
- Prior experience in Tooling Engineering and Toolroom management
- Must possess skills to use 3D Drafting Software
- Experience running simulation software and concepts of material flow, material cure and characterizing the material for feeding the simulation software
- Strong Problem-solving skills with experience using root cause analysis techniques
- Ability to mentor, motivate and develop subordinates
- Tooling Engineering/Procurement/Design experience
- Six sigma, Red X, or other problem-solving certification or experience
- Experience working cross-functionally with all levels of the organization structure
- Understanding or experience in reaction injection molding / APG / Silicone and Epoxy molding
- General Office Environment, PC use
- Light Lifting (occasional 25 lbs or less)
