About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage and review U.S. federal and state tax compliance engagements for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts and estates
- Prepare and review U.S. tax returns and related information reporting, including Forms 1040, 1120, 1065, 1041, 5471, 5472, 8858 and 8865
- Review complex tax returns and supporting workpapers for accuracy, completeness and technical compliance
- Provide technical guidance to staff and assist with complex U.S. tax compliance matters
- Research U.S. federal and state tax legislation and communicate relevant changes to the team
- Manage client compliance deadlines, workflow and engagement priorities
- Identify compliance issues and process improvement opportunities
- Respond to client questions and provide practical U.S. tax compliance guidance
- Collaborate with Canadian tax professionals on intersecting U.S. and Canadian tax matters
- Mentor and develop junior tax professionals, including technical review and feedback
- Assist with standardized processes, checklists, templates and technical resources for the U.S. tax practice
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5–8 years of public accounting experience focused on U.S. taxation
- Strong experience preparing and reviewing U.S. federal tax returns
- Strong knowledge of U.S. federal tax compliance requirements
- U.S. state tax experience considered an asset
- Experience with U.S. international information reporting is an asset
- Strong technical research and problem-solving abilities
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple compliance engagements and deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Proven ability to mentor and support junior tax professionals
- Canadian tax or cross-border experience is an asset, but not required
- U.S. CPA or IRS Enrolled Agent designation would be an asset
