About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide materials expertise and technical leadership for multiple material systems and aviation components
- Develop and apply metallic materials and processes across aviation components within the supply chain
- Solve complex technical problems for new products and legacy teams
- Execute analysis, design, testing, and integration for assigned components, assemblies, or systems
- Select materials for new designs and troubleshoot manufacturing issues in new-make and repair
- Implement new materials and processes and review supplier processes
- Plan material test programs
- Drive improvement in forge and heat-treatment special processes for rotor alloys across the rotating-parts supply chain
- Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers
- Support the supply chain through audits, reviews, and pre-production meetings
- Participate in business and industry teams improving special-process application for critical rotating parts
- Define technical specifications and establish process limits
- Document technical data according to engineering policies and procedures
- Partner with key suppliers to improve metrics
- Travel as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgy, or a high school diploma/GED and 9 years of engineering and/or science experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in disciplinary engineering and/or science
- Ability to prove U.S. Person status for access to U.S. export-controlled information: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, or granted asylee/refugee status
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Experience with aerospace or gas turbine industry manufacturing, quality systems, and field support
- Experience with primary processing (forge and heat treatment) of rotating part forgings
- In-depth understanding of metallurgy, manufacturing processes, and aerospace forging/heat-treatment inspections
- In-depth understanding of the supply chain
- Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
- Ability to perform technical work and work successfully in a team environment
