About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform project-completion tasks including analysis, training, testing, documentation, problem resolution, and implementation for laboratory information systems
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the assigned laboratory area and provide input on project plans
  • Develop and maintain laboratory information systems
  • Perform file maintenance and software updates
  • Verify data entry, reports, and software changes before production release
  • Provide Laboratory Information System, Laboratory Information Technology, and laboratory-area support
  • Test and verify periodic software releases and pre-production software changes
  • Develop ad hoc reports and dashboards
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot instrument interfaces and peripheral devices
  • Diagnose and prevent errors and notify appropriate individuals
  • Develop laboratory information system policies and procedures
  • Support change control documentation and communication with laboratory and non-laboratory users
  • Participate in computer orientation, training, and in-service programs for laboratory personnel
  • Support interfacing between the Laboratory Information System and hospital and clinical information systems
  • Submit and lead technical change requests for the assigned laboratory area
  • Work 50% of the time in a hospital laboratory, including bench work at the primary location
  • Travel to other hospitals for various ad hoc projects

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university and successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program; OR bachelor's degree in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science and ASCP categorical certification; OR bachelor's degree in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science and at least two years' experience equivalent to a Medical Laboratory Technician in a clinical laboratory
  • Associate's Degree-Medical Laboratory Technician (Required)
  • Minimum of 8 years-Laboratory (Required)
  • Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
  • Experience in Epic Beaker and Geisinger Chemistry workflows and instrumentation preferred
  • Communication, computer literacy, laboratory equipment operation, Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), laboratory services, and laboratory supply and inventory management
  • Ability to work bench at the primary location and travel to other hospitals for ad hoc projects
  • Willingness to work variable weekends and possible night/weekend/holiday rotation; limited on-call/evening/weekend work based on projects
  • Travel less than 25%
