About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee Risk Management and Patient Safety programs across the assigned region
- Partner with leaders to enhance quality, promote patient safety, increase quality, and decrease patient harm
- Support the Northeast Region at Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC) and Geisinger Wyoming Valley (GWV)
- Manage the Risk Management and Patient Safety Department for the assigned region
- Oversee comprehensive evaluation, investigation, reporting, and remediation of safety events and daily operations
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and interact with associated regulatory agencies
- Act as Patient Safety Officer for assigned locations
- Ensure compliance with all Act 13 regulations
- Trend patient safety events and report to the Patient Safety Committee and platform leadership
- Identify safety events requiring written notification to patients in a timely manner
- Oversee identification and review of potential Sentinel Events
- Collaborate with RPI to conduct required analysis and action planning
- Collaborate with Risk Insurance and Legal departments to identify potential claims and resolve patient requests
- Supervise employees and support daily operations of assigned Risk Management and Patient Safety departments
- Contribute to the design and development of Clinical Risk Management and Patient Safety programs
- Participate in recruitment and retention of professional and paraprofessional staff
- Manage staffing plans, position descriptions, performance evaluations, action plans, employee goal setting, hiring, promotion, and disciplinary actions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Licensed Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - RN_State of Pennsylvania
- Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience required
- Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory, management, or leadership experience in a healthcare setting is required
- Bachelor's degree required
- BSN preferred
- Master's degree preferred
- Knowledge of quality improvement principles, patient safety practices, Pennsylvania patient safety event reporting requirements, and healthcare performance metrics preferred
- Experience in quality management, patient safety, accreditation, risk management, or performance improvement preferred
- Familiarity with event reporting systems, root cause analysis, and performance improvement methodologies beneficial
- Ability to build relationships
- Ability to manage conflict and crisis
- Compliance with organization policies, procedures, and job-specific obligations
