About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, and production methods
  • Analyze workflows, resources, and operations to improve productivity, capacity utilization, and operational efficiency
  • Design automated manufacturing systems, robotics, and digital factory technologies
  • Lead quality, process improvement, waste reduction, reliability, and operational excellence initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma principles
  • Design, validate, and bring new products to market
  • Provide new product development support for generator and power tool product areas
  • Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, and bills of materials
  • Support product development plans, including schedules, product costs, and design inputs
  • Interface with internal company personnel and provide technical support for assigned projects
  • Specify functional requirements; design, test, and integrate standard components
  • Evaluate designs for effectiveness, cost, reliability, risk, and safety
  • Design, execute, and evaluate fitness-for-use testing, product specifications, and process validation plans
  • Create and review material part specifications and bills of materials
  • Collaborate with manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers, and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability
  • Use CAD or CAE systems to model designs and produce detailed engineering drawings
  • Travel to other Generac facilities as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree, preferably in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Civil Engineering
  • Understanding or working knowledge of Pro-E and/or AutoCAD
  • Proficient oral and written communication; able to write clearly and succinctly
  • Ability to work full-time during the summer (40-hour week)
  • Potential to work part time through the school year
  • Completion of sophomore year preferred
