About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and develop new products, subsystems, and components from concept through production
  • Plan and execute laboratory and field testing to verify product performance, durability, safety, and compliance
  • Use FEA, CFD, and system modeling to predict product behavior and accelerate development
  • Develop cooling, airflow, fuel, combustion, and fluid management systems
  • Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, and bills of materials
  • Support product development plans, including schedules, product costs, and design inputs
  • Interface with internal company personnel and provide technical support for assigned projects
  • Specify functional requirements; design, test, and integrate standard components
  • Evaluate designs for effectiveness, cost, reliability, risk, and safety
  • Develop and evaluate fitness-for-use testing, product specifications, and process validation plans
  • Collaborate with manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers, and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability
  • Utilize CAD or CAE systems to model designs and produce engineering drawings
  • Travel to other Generac facilities as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Understanding or working knowledge of Pro-E and/or AutoCAD
  • Proficient oral and written communication; able to write clearly and succinctly
  • Ability to work full-time during the summer (40-hour week)
  • Completion of sophomore year preferred
