About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage the overall project from the planning phase through final milestone completion, availability completion, and ship delivery to the customer
  • Provide independent, complex analysis, concept formulation, and new method identification
  • Act as the company representative and primary customer contact
  • Forward customer project information to company departments and enter project data into management systems
  • Implement project management processes, tools, and supporting guidelines
  • Assist Planning with project proposals, job estimates, and schedules
  • Delegate responsibilities among Assistant Area Managers and recommend project team composition
  • Assemble, plan, lead, and facilitate cross-functional project team meetings with company personnel, subcontractors, customers, and the U.S. Navy
  • Develop detailed task lists, work-effort assessments, and short- and long-term resource allocation plans
  • Identify work-scope changes and coordinate planning, estimating, production, contracts, customer input, scope, schedules, and budgets
  • Identify, assess, and analyze project risks and issues and develop mitigation plans
  • Provide leadership during schedule and production conflicts
  • Lead 3 to 5 assigned personnel
  • Maintain outsourcing relationships with teaming partners and subcontractors while tracking milestones and work completion
  • Notify Accounting when work completion occurs so invoices and partner payments can be processed
  • Maintain responsibility for project budgets and schedules to ensure on-time, on-schedule completion
  • Report to the Director of Programs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Typically has a BA/BS in or a related academic field, or AA/AS plus 2 years directly related experience, or 4 years directly related experience
  • Preferred minimum of four years of shipboard repair experience within a public or private shipyard
  • Minimum of four years’ experience managing technical personnel within complex activities or shipboard availabilities
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to navigate the computer server environment
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable, insurable transportation
  • Willingness to carry a business rider if necessary when using the vehicle for company business
  • Able to gain access to Government facilities and obtain a security clearance once employed
  • Able to work nights and weekends during peak workloads or as requested by Senior Management
  • Willingness to travel and manage ship repair availabilities in remote, out-of-state locations for extended periods
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including a respirator
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and qualify for a Common Access Card (CAC) or DBIDS badge
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality; available for overtime as required
  • Ability to physically transit all areas of the facility, go aboard marine vessels and drydock, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces
  • Familiarity with a naval-ship-work-environment
  • Good eye/hand coordination and ability to meet the stated visual, physical, hearing, and communication requirements
