About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide engineering support for shipboard repair projects at various work sites
  • Support trade shops, production work, planning functions, and project work
  • Develop and review work specifications, technical work documents, test memos, technical reports, and engineering responses
  • Perform technical analysis, engineering calculations, testing, experiments, and technical data review
  • Assess customer technical requirements and develop solutions using customer technical standards
  • Provide technical assistance and resolve issues for production trades
  • Interpret regulatory body rules, US Navy specifications, and industry standards
  • Develop drawings, sketches, and bills of materials using engineering research and CAD software
  • Conduct non-conformance evaluations of systems and equipment and document resolutions
  • Research complex shipboard problems and propose solutions
  • Perform ship checks, on-site work-scope validation, and technical evaluations
  • Ensure products meet company and customer quality, schedule, and cost requirements
  • Represent the company on engineering matters
  • Perform internal audits and participate in departmental or company CPI events when directed and qualified
  • Report to the Planning, Engineering & Scheduling Director; work under guidance of a Senior Engineer
  • No direct reports

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • ABET accredited Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years shipboard repair experience within a public or private shipyard with a Bachelor’s degree, or 0 years of experience with a Master’s degree
  • In-depth engineering knowledge and competence to perform most engineering tasks and responsibilities
  • Familiarity with shipboard equipment
  • Ability to understand and apply regulatory body rules and regulations, US Navy, and industry standards
  • Demonstrated AutoCAD skills
  • Demonstrated Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) skills
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues verbally and in writing
  • Ability to create and maintain technical databases and prepare and present reports
  • Ability to work aboard marine vessels, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, wear PPE, and travel locally or to remote locations
  • Ability to work nights and weekends during peak workloads or when requested
  • Ability to gain access to government facilities and obtain a DoD security clearance and CAC card once employed
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Desirable: E.I.T. Certificate; FEA Certificate/experience; ISO Internal Auditor training; Green/Black Belt training; technical writing; U.S. Navy military experience; ship maintenance and repair processes; hull, machinery, and coatings problem resolution; Autodesk Inventor experience; shipboard diesel engine repair and overhaul experience
