About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead a team responsible for General Motors' North American dangerous goods transportation compliance across all modes
- Supervise and mentor dangerous goods specialists
- Develop, implement, and maintain dangerous goods transportation compliance programs, policies, and procedures
- Provide technical guidance and regulatory interpretation to logistics, supply chain, engineering, manufacturing, and other internal stakeholders
- Collaborate with carriers, freight forwarders, regulatory bodies, and other external partners
- Manage and investigate dangerous goods incidents, including reporting and preventative measures
- Develop and deliver dangerous goods training programs
- Monitor regulatory and industry best-practice changes and update internal policies and procedures
- Lead cross-functional dangerous goods compliance and optimization projects
- Prepare and present compliance, risk assessment, and incident reports to senior management
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of 5 years of experience in dangerous goods transportation compliance
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role
- Expert-level knowledge of dangerous goods regulations, including IATA DGR, IMDG Code, ADR, DOT 49 CFR, and TDG Canada
- Strong understanding of hazardous materials classification, packaging, labeling, and documentation requirements
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Certification in dangerous goods transportation, such as IATA, IMDG, or DOT Hazmat
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred)
- GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship; applicants must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future
- Ability to travel less than 25%
