About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the design and analysis of threaded and non-threaded joints for vehicle components and systems
- Assist with fastener selection using fastener catalogs, engineering standards, and part classification tools
- Run joint calculations including clamp load, torque, joint slip, thread engagement, and strength checks
- Help develop and maintain fastener tightening specifications
- Support design reviews for accessibility, serviceability, and manufacturing feasibility
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Plant, Tooling, and Equipment engineering teams to implement fastening processes
- Assist with torque-tension testing, joint audits, and plant torque correlation studies
- Document lessons learned and contribute to fastening standards, guidelines, and checklists
- Participate in issue resolution for fastener failures, loosening, warranty concerns, and assembly problems
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Maintain records of fastener data, torque specifications, joint calculations, and change history
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field
- Fundamental understanding of mechanics of materials, including stress/strain, fatigue, preload, and friction
- Basic machine design knowledge
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and basic CAD models
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Comfort with engineering calculations and engineering calculation tools
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
- Willingness to learn and consistently apply GM fastening standards, tools, and procedures
- Must not require GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, or J-1 support
