About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own rear seat structures and key components from concept through launch and production
- Define system requirements and develop SORs for rear seat structure subsystems
- Lead design, integration, technical reviews, and trade-off studies
- Define and maintain Interface Control Documents and resolve interface conflicts
- Lead Product Development Teams, including timing, parts lists, DFM/DFMA, issue tracking, and risk mitigation
- Release production designs meeting regulatory, performance, quality, and commodity requirements
- Conduct engineering and design reviews for GVDP milestone readiness
- Serve as primary technical interface with program teams, plants, suppliers, CAE, validation, purchasing, and quality
- Lead vehicle-program launches at assembly plants and supplier facilities
- Provide build support, issue resolution, and change management
- Lead problem-solving for cost, quality, safety, and warranty issues and drive corrective actions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in product development, preferably with structural components or seating systems
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret 3D math data
- Experience using tools such as Vis-Mock-up or equivalent
- Strong foundation in engineering fundamentals and mechanics
- Ability to work independently, make sound technical judgments, and drive issues to closure
- Strong organizational and tactical planning skills
- Ability to travel up to 15% (the posting also states travel under 25%)
- Product Design Release experience through multiple GVDP cycles preferred
- Working knowledge of product development processes, FMVSS regulations, vehicle-level requirements, GVDP milestones, deliverables, and sign-off criteria preferred
- Prior automotive OEM product development experience preferred
- Experience applying DFSS tools preferred; DFSS certification is a plus
- Experience with Red-X, 8D, and root-cause analysis preferred
- Must not require GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future
- Must be able to work at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week
