About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, engineer, and release bumper, grille, fascia, and exterior trim subsystems
  • Support or lead large cross-functional Product Development Teams involving suppliers, designers, studio, engineering, validation, manufacturing, supplier quality, dimensional, CAE, and purchasing
  • Deliver in-house designs on time and with quality to meet program milestones
  • Design and package BGFT and directed-buy components including sensors, cameras, harnesses, and lamps
  • Develop criteria and typical sections using Unigraphics math data and collaborate with the studio on surface development
  • Balance cost, timing, mass, warranty, and other subsystem imperatives
  • Perform design studies and alternatives and present studies and business cases to program teams
  • Support design and technical reviews
  • Build Interface Control Document requirements and collaborate on vehicle integration
  • Support BGFT launch efforts with assembly plants and cross-functional personnel to resolve issues
  • Create and maintain SORs, SOWs, ICDs, DFMEAs, DVP&R, drawings, and BOMs
  • Support benchmarking, technology development, and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience as a Design Release Engineer or relevant industry experience
  • Proficiency with NX or Teamcenter/Unigraphics
  • Experience in execution of vehicle development cycles from concept through production launch
  • Program management skills
  • Physics-based problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate information to and from internal and external customer organizations
  • Green Belt or Black Belt DFSS certification preferred
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) preferred
  • Plastic injection molding design knowledge preferred
  • Stamping and metal forming design knowledge preferred
  • Fixture design and product validation knowledge preferred
  • Experience with DFMEA and GD&T preferred
  • Budget management preferred
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future
