About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead product development and Core Engineering/integration activities within the Seat Core Engineering team
  • Develop seat variants for vehicle programs using engineering tools and processes
  • Achieve program milestones through rigorous program management
  • Design, develop, analyze, implement, and validate complex seat subsystems
  • Perform engineering design evaluations and concept development using a Design for Six Sigma approach
  • Use DFMEA, ICDs, PFMEA, and CAE collaboration to develop system design solutions
  • Complete DFMEAs on time and with quality
  • Package components and manage CAD development through suppliers or GM designers
  • Collaborate with vehicle systems and cross-functional teams on configuration, cost optimization, customer requirements, and product/process improvements
  • Balance cost, mass, complexity, timing, and content
  • Communicate with internal and external customer organizations and lead the Product Development Team
  • Track and resolve open issues
  • Review, support, and apply benchmarking for competitive design direction
  • Support the SVI team through early engagement
  • Understand customer needs and architecture limitations
  • Integrate components, occupants, and seating systems
  • Develop reuse strategies and reduce component variants across seating systems
  • Develop comfort, craftsmanship, quality assembly, and closeout improvements
  • Support virtual validation goals
  • Incorporate lessons learned and continuous improvements from physical validation and builds

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, or Civil Engineering required
  • Minimum 5+ years of developing and executing technical solutions for mechanical components supporting new vehicle programs
  • Previous seat development experience
  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Green Belt certification required
  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Black Belt certification required
  • Ability to balance business imperatives including cost, mass, complexity, and timing
  • Comfortable working with multidisciplinary and cross-cultural teams
  • Ability to deal optimally with ambiguity and a forward-thinking environment
  • Master’s degree in Engineering preferred
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving methods such as Red-X preferred
  • Experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, and GD&T preferred
  • Must not require GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, or J-1 support
  • Must be able to work onsite at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week or at a frequency determined by the manager
  • Must be willing to travel less than 25%
