About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and grow a full-stack engineering team
  • Provide mentorship and career growth and establish a culture of engineering excellence
  • Lead the GM Commercial eCommerce roadmap
  • Lead cross-functional meetings to drive issue resolution and support design discussions meeting program milestones
  • Shape designs and architecture and participate in code reviews and incident post-mortems
  • Build, scale, and maintain GM’s Commercial eCommerce platform
  • Drive the technical roadmap and translate business and functional requirements into robust systems
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and oversee end-to-end delivery from scoping through production issue resolution
  • Deliver platform capabilities across product catalog, billing, and payments
  • Partner with Product Management, Design, and Business leaders to deliver foundational platform services enabling rapid product launch and monetization

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years of experience in software development, product building, or similar domains
  • 3+ years in engineering management
  • Proven ability to recruit top talent, cultivate technical career growth, and foster high-performing engineering cultures
  • Experience leading highly technical teams through the software development lifecycle using industry-standard/best-practice software development approaches
  • Expertise designing fault-tolerant, event-driven architectures where data integrity is paramount
  • Mastery of idempotent APIs, ordered messaging, event sourcing/durable logs, and at-least-once/effectively-once guarantees
  • Deep experience integrating core services with payment processors, tax automation, and enterprise ERPs
  • Experience defining strict SLIs/SLOs for mission-critical financial paths and delivering operational improvements such as automated reconciliation, faster close times, and zero-loss settlement
  • Comfortable bridging digital software, regulated hardware, and complex physical operations
  • BS in CS/CE/EE or equivalent practical experience
  • Must be able to work without current or future GM immigration sponsorship, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, J-1, or other immigration support
  • Preferred: 5+ years in engineering management
  • Preferred: MS or PhD in CS/CE/EE or equivalent practical experience
  • Preferred: 3+ years building commercial platforms involving catalog, subscription/usage billing, payments, and reporting within PCI-DSS/SOX compliance and audit environments
  • Prior experience working with Business and Sales teams and understanding enterprise journeys preferred
